Drug Detoxification

In America, drug use and addiction are two of the largest concerns facing most people today. Some people feel that drug abuse is limited to hard illegal substances but prescription pill addiction is climbing at an alarming rate and it is not just limited to oxycontin, but also extends into the prescriptions for male inadequacy and antipsychotics.

Addiction also has extended out of the reach of drugs and alcohol, but also includes people who are addicted to Internet interests like online gaming, gambling and porn. Other new addictions are video games, sex, food and religion as Americans feel the need to compensate for something missing in their lives.

As a society, western civilization is a drug culture that needs to find cures for what ails them by substituting another addiction.

Ways to break these cycles are through detoxification for drug-related addictions and abstinence from other less dependent cycles of interest and overindulgence.

Drug Detox Basics

As a medicate-to-fix culture, it is easy to see how we have become a nation of addicts. Whatever our problem is there is a doctor ready to hand out a prescription to solve our pains whether they are physical or emotional. If we feel low, they give us something high. If we are high, then it is something to mellow us out.

Drug therapy and drug use run hand-i- hand in our culture. We try to right one imbalance by pushing it in the other direction. This leads our body in a constant see-saw battle to get right. One thing that the pharmaceutical industry does not want you to know is that you probably don’t need any of those things if you just tapped into the natural rhythm of your body.

Our lifestyles cause this imbalance. Too much starches, too much sugar, too much caffeine, too much nicotine and not eating healthy foods and getting enough exercise are the root causes of our highs and lows. Low self-esteem, depression and ADHD can all be cured by taking better care of ourselves and not relying on medication.

Drug Detoxification Symptoms

All drugs and stimulants have some level of toxicity which has physiological and psychological components that affect our body. It is these relationships to our body that cause certain moods and needs.

At very young ages, we are exposed to stimulants in our food and drink that start us on a road to addiction and toxic responses to what we place in our body. Most of us eat too much sugar, take in too many carbs from unbleached white flour and get an overload of caffeine from sodas. These substances were never meant to be such a high part of our diet and cause drastic imbalances that lead to cravings, addiction, mood swings and other issues like depression and ADHD.

As we grow up, we are exposed to higher levels of caffeine and sugar plus nicotine, alcohol and sedatives. These further add to our imbalance and then we see a doctor who gives us stronger drugs to correct a trend that continues to grow since childhood.

By going through a drug detoxification program, you can right these imbalances and lead a normal drug free life again.

Finding a Drug Detox Center

For most who seek out a drug detox center, they are looking for cures for serious drug addiction to illegal and harmful substances like oxycontin, heroin, cocaine and methamphetamine. Lately, more people have been seeking out drug detoxification programs to deal with other substances like marijuana, Vicodin, Ritalin and other addictions like alcohol, caffeine and nicotine.

The truth is that probably everybody needs to detox their system either through a home cleansing or through extensive treatments. I have started a list of centers around the country and will update this as I get a chance.

Searching the Internet can provide you with more information and links to find the drug detox treatment you are looking for.

The aim of drug detoxification is to rid the body of toxins that build up by drug use. The first step of drug detoxing is drug withdrawal. The meaning of withdrawal is to discontinue the use of an addictive substance, and to break the physiological and mental readjustment that accompanies such discontinuation.
Basically, once you stop using drugs, the physical and behavioral withdrawal symptoms may follow.

The nature and harshness of the withdrawal symptoms can vary greatly depending on the particular drug or drugs that were being used as well as the frequency of use. These days there are few people who use one drug exclusively. It is very ordinary to see individuals in drug detoxification programs that use combinations like alcohol and cocaine, or alcohol and prescription medications for example. Drug detox is a method that applies to any individual who is addicted to substances. Detoxification helps reduce the uncomfortable symptoms of drug withdrawal.

This can be performed in many different ways depending on how you decide to receive treatment. Most drug detoxification centers simply provide management to avoid physical withdrawal to alcohol and other drugs. Ideally, a trained detoxification facility will incorporate counseling and therapy during their drug detox to help with the psychological anguish that the person may experience as well.

Detoxing should cover all aspects of the individual’s withdrawal and cleansing from drugs. The removal of drug residuals is a key goal in drug detox. Without this process, drug residues can remain in one’s body and cause residual cravings for years after drug use has stopped. A vital step in a successful drug detoxification as well as drug rehabilitation is flushing out these accumulated noxious residues so that the individual no longer experiences unwanted unpleasant effects from the drugs they have taken.
